AD News and Tips

How to Support Your Area's RCs

At this year's NAGM in Seattle, Wash., AYSO’s Area Directors got together for hours of discussion, problem solving and idea-sharing in the AD Caucuses.

The AD Report has collected these caucus topics and the resulting ideas and solutions from the participating ADs, and we are excited to share this information with you over the next several weeks.

The candid challenges and helpful proposed resolutions will only be published in The AD Report, so be sure to check back in every month!

This week's challenge: Regional Commissioners Feeling Isolated and Disconnected

Make it personal. Establish a more personal relationship with your RCs by scheduling face-to-face meetings with them on a regular basis. “If meetings in person isn’t possible, utilize other media such as Skype or Oovoo,” shared one AD. “It’s also a good idea to connect your RCs and encourage them to communicate and help each other.”

Help provide training. Helping your Regions train and instruct their volunteers is a great way to help them feel supported and connected. Try utilizing AYSO’s RoadShows to help train volunteers in Regions located in harder-to-reach areas. “It’s a good idea to offer scholarships to help the Regions in your Area cover the cost of training,” shared an AD.

Communicate through email. You can also reach out to your Regions via e-newsletters or email communication to help remind them of upcoming deadlines (RAP, budget, etc.), training opportunities or just to reach out to show support.
