Coaching Your First Team Tip #5: Sometimes It's the Little Things That Matter

Coach Amy Mayber says: “I learned the hard way that part of a coach's job is to make sure that everyone's shorts are tied. First play of the first game, one of my girls started running and her pants fell to the ground!”

As a first-time coach, it’s easy to get caught up in game plans, roster planning, snack duties, etc., but remember that for those few days a week, you’re the guardian of your team of little soccer stars.

When game day rolls around, remember the little things. How are they feeling today? Did they drink enough water? Check out their cool hair ribbons! Are their shoes tied? Do they have the right kind of socks on?

This type of follow-up can make all the difference – and your players won’t be running around the field with their shorts at their ankles!
