Building positive parent-coach relationships can help everyone have a more productive, beneficial season. When parents support their kids' teachers, students learn more. This concept is also true for soccer - kids will have a better experience if parents work in unison with you to create a positive youth sports experience.
As a coach, be prepared to be approached by a player or parent. As a part of their Responsible Sports Program, AYSO national sponsor Liberty Mutual has several tips for encouraging open communication with your players and their parents:

- Empower your players to speak up. There are several advantages to having your players speak directly to you. Be open to suggestions from your players. Encouraging them to speak up can be an empowering experience for children, even if they don't get the change they want.
- Be prepared for parents to intervene. Some situations may arise where a parent feels it's necessary to speak with you. This can be a great way to start a positive pattern of communication with your parents and show them that you are approachable and willing to listen.
