Families bring their children to AYSO to play soccer and in return, AYSO provides them with wonderful opportunities to enrich their lives. The Needham family, volunteering in Region 56, referees games together. Brad, the dad, has volunteered for six years and will continue to do so because he believes “that it is important for parents to be involved in activities with their kids.”
Samar, the mom, recently started refereeing as well because she “thought it was a good opportunity for (her daughter) Jordan and I to do something together and to approach soccer from a different perspective - both of us play soccer. And what better way to enjoy Saturday than referring and watching my son play.” Jordan, who has been playing four years and also just started refereeing, said that “volunteering, especially as a referee, allows me to have fun yet be fair. It also allows me to be in a position of leadership. Making a decision as a referee helps me be more confident in my everyday decisions - whether it is related to school or making a certain play on the soccer field.”
Thank you to all the AYSO families that are volunteering to enrich children’s lives as well as their own!
