National Annual General Meeting Recap

Hundreds of AYSO Executive Members from across the nation gathered over Memorial Weekend in Phoenix, Ariz. for the 2015 AYSO National Annual General Meeting (NAGM).

Executive Members voted, in person or in proxy, on the National Board of Directors (NBOD), NBOD president, amendments and other issues of the national organization. Every AYSO Regional Commissioner is a voting Executive Member along with Area Directors, Section Directors and the NBOD.

During the final session of the weekend, the Executive Members reelected Bob Daniel and elected Janet Braun and Aaron Luce to serve on the NBOD; Mark Stewart of Hawaii was reelected as AYSO National President and both proposed Bylaw Amendments, “Adopt ‘Volunteer Driven’ as AYSO's seventh Philosophy” and “Require a VIP (Very Important Player) Board position for every Region,” did not pass.

Special guest Chris Hannan, FOX Sports Executive Vice President of Communications and Integration, was the featured speaker in the Opening Business Session. Chris is at the forefront of the sports network's goal of making soccer one of the top sports in the United States. He said he firmly believes that one of the keys to making this happen is to grow the game at the grassroots level with AYSO.

During his presentation, Hannan helped unveil the AYSO theme for 2016: "AYSO: The World's Biggest Soccer Club."  A spectacular video, produced by FOX Sports, helped illustrate the unique national nature of AYSO that brings together nearly 900 community programs as a single club with a common vision of developing world class soccer programs that enrich children’s lives. A version of the new video will be available to all AYSO Regions for their use later this year.

Thanks to all AYSO volunteers for their continuing support of nearly 500,000 players and for making this year’s NAGM a weekend to remember!
