Last season an apartment complex in Knoxville, Tenn. caught fire, destroying the building and leaving many families homeless. Shortly after the disaster, Coach Nick and Coach Aaron from Region 124 in Knoxville. realized that one of the families affected was one of their players. The player, his mom and his three siblings had lost their home and all of their possessions in the fire.
Coach Nick immediately started contacting the Regional Board to spread the word that one of their Region’s families was in need of help. The Board promptly got to work, sending out information via email and social media to the Region’s families requesting help of any kind. For the next week, the Region worked around the clock getting donations including clothing, food, furniture, mattresses, gift cards for groceries and anything else the family needed to get their lives back on track.
Donation drop off events were held at AYSO fields, giving Region 124 and Area 5B families an opportunity to help this family. The response was so great that the Region collected enough items to not only help this family, but several of the other families that were affected by the fire.
In the months since, the apartment complex was rebuilt and the families affected moved in to their new homes.
