Websites are an important means of distributing information these days. It's almost expected that everyone and everything will have a website that is easily accessible with all of the pertinent information available at the click of a mouse.

AYSO recognizes this need and has a few solutions that make it so ANY Region can have their own website and maintain it themselves!

How to Transition Your Clubspaces Website

Your Clubspaces website will be live until Sept. 3, 2013. We encourage you to research and plan your new website now so a transition can take place at a time most convenient to you.

Be sure your Region, Area or Section webmaster is aware of the new AYSO webmaster blog, AYSO Info Spot. With regular posts by bloggers Jen Kaye and Aliya Hassan, this is an opportunity to get updated information on free AYSO website tools, share tips with other AYSO webmasters, get assistance from the National Office and learn how to make your website more effective, valuable and fun.

We regret that the Active.com team has needed to retire the Clubspaces products but it is to enhance and upgrade what they offer. We want to help in every way we can to make your transition a smooth one.

Here are four good website options for you to research and choose from:

Option 1: Active.com will provide you a free eTeamz website

eTeamz is a free sports website for teams and leagues. It offers more professionally designed templates than Clubspaces and helps manage team rosters, schedules, player stats, social media and more. Click here to learn more.

Active.com, the owner of Clubspaces is making available to you a FREE eTeamz PLUS account (PLUS account available to you for one year, standard eTeamz account is always free) and setting up your website in eTeamz. You can get the coupon code for the free site by contacting the AYSO National AYSO office at sheam@ayso.org or contacting Brady Harrington at Brady.Harrington@ACTIVEnetwork.com. Here's a link to some short videos to help you get started.

Option 2: Use an alternate free template website provider

A variety of other reputable companies also offer free youth sports website templates and services. Here are just two you may wish to consider:

Blue Sombrero
http://www.bluesombrero.com/
Offers attractive free template websites and more elaborate websites on a fee-basis

Active Youth Network
http://www.activeyouthnetwork.com/
Offers free youth sports websites that includes advertising with the Region sharing in the ad revenue. Ads are youth-appropriate and cannot conflict with AYSO national sponsors.

Option 3: Use free website services provided by Google

Google offers free website services although some technical knowledge (or some time and willingness to learn!) is likely required. Here is information prepared by an AYSO volunteer that uses these services:

Option 4: Upgrade to a more customized website

Your Region may be in a community that seems to need a more customized website. Perhaps you have for-profit clubs with recreational programs that you must compete with directly. The cost for a customized website can range from $500 to $5000. Some services have additional hosting fees, so be sure you are comparing all the fees for your website. Every community has local companies that build websites in addition to national and/or online firms, so check Google or your local Yellow Pages.

I just signed up or already have a website. What should I put on it?

This is a very common question that can seem overwhelming when staring at a blank webpage. For your homepage, you want it to be the most central place that people will go to when trying to find information. It's good to change up your content once in awhile to keep people coming back and wanting to see what is new or coming up. You can keep it relevent to the soccer seasons or registration, giving your families the information they need to participate to their fullest. Below are some ideas for homepage content:
  • Registration Dates/Location/Information
  • FAQs - How to contact coaches, etc.
  • Upcoming Training Dates, classes etc.
  • Contact Information - Phone numbers, email addresses, etc.

Websites have lots of pages. How many pages should I have on mine?

Some common links could include an About Us, Contact Us, Registration, Board Members, Field Locations, Coach Information, FAQs, etc. Below are some websites that give examples of a good site structure:

My website isn't showing up in search engines? Why?

Search engines spider websites for keywords and information periodically, so if your site is new, it may take a week or so for the search engines to pick up your website and show it in the listings. Other things you can do to help search engines include:
  • Give links names (both in the URL and in the text) that are related to the content on the page. Naming a link page1.html will not help your site get picked up in search results.
  • Make sure your text on your pages include key words about the subject matter. Be as descriptive as possible while still having text that reads well.
  • Give pictures an ALT tag to help descibe the content in the image. Search engines pick up these tags and can help increase your visibility on a search engine.
