Several university sport’s programs throughout the U.S. are teaming up with AYSO Regions to host events ranging from skills training and ball boy programs, to coaching clinics and large community get-togethers.
One example of this is Santa Barbara’s local AYSO Region’s involvement with the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). UCSB soccer teamed up with AYSO Region 122 to host a number of events, which kicked off with the annual Santa Barbara AYSO Coaches Clinic last month and was headlined with the sixth annual AYSO Skills Day, which has consistently drawn over 1,500 attendees. The AYSO Skills Day event is free to all AYSO affiliated players, coaches and parents and featured skill clinics with UCSB players and coaching clinics with UCSB coaches.
“Both AYSO and UCSB benefitted greatly from this collaboration. UCSB gets more of our families coming out to watch their games and buying season tickets. Our kids idolize their players. We get expert coaching lessons, discounted family packs and more fun activities for our kids as a result of these programs,” says John Maloney, Regional Commissioner of Region 122.
Teaming up with AYSO Regions to host events is a fantastic opportunity for universities to engage with the local community, attract interest in the school’s programs and build a new fan base for sports teams. Events such as skills clinics and coach training are great promotional opportunities for schools and bring a great value to both the university and AYSO programs. Just make sure the coach training is in line with AYSO’s coaching program!
