3 Smart Ideas For Recruiting New Volunteers
If your Region is having a tough time recruiting volunteers, try targeting the parents of your 4 - 5 year old players. Parents of children just beginning their involvement in sports want to be a part of that experience. Show these parents that AYSO is a fun organization and values the time they will give. Try one of these great ideas:
Set up a fun, age-appropriate activity for the children. Some Regions host a soccer ball shooting contest or other child-friendly game in a location near the registration area (which is well supervised). Consider allowing AYSO players and siblings to participate for free and charge others a small price, making it a fundraiser for your Region.
Giving an inexpensive memento to every parent of the younger players who also volunteer is a way your Region can say, "Thank You for your time." An AYSO pin from Sport Pins International or a coffee mug from the AYSO Store can be fun, inexpensive gifts, and is a good use of Region funds.
Make sure the Regional Commissioner comes to the registration event to greet any new parent who decides to volunteer. It's a great opportunity for the RC to shake their hands and tell them how much the time they will be giving to AYSO is appreciated and that their involvement in soccer will bring them closer to their child.
