AYSO Makes 4th of July Parade Appearance
Region 864 Uses Banner To Spread The Word
Carla Bahn, the Regional Commissioner (RC) from Region 864 in the Florida Keys, decided that her mission this year was to get the word out about AYSO so parents could register their children early. When Carla realized that her local July 4th parade was lined with hundreds of families, she decided that her Region had to be a part of the parade.
Carla attended RC Training at AYSO's National Support and Training Center earlier this year, and as a Platinum Award winning Region, Region 864 received a special promotional Platinum Award banner. This new banner will be available to all Platinum Award winning Regions in the 2008-09 Regional Assessment Program cycle.
"Our Region decided to proudly display our Platinum Award banner during the July 4th parade to brag to our community about our accomplishments," Carla explains. "The status of Platinum shows parents our soccer program is well run and we follow the AYSO philosophies."
In addition to the banner, the Region had about 15 players in their AYSO jerseys walking and riding along the parade route and throwing out candy and rubber soccer rings with papers attached giving out the Region's Web site for early registration. Region 864 parents also joined in the fun by walking the parade route and handing out postcards with the Region's Web site and upcoming registration dates, location and times.
Region 864 was able to use a little creativity to get the word out there about their Region. What does your Region do? Let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org.
