Are You Running an EXTRA Program?
So, how can you tell if you are running an EXTRA Program? It's simple.
First, all of the teams that are involved must be AYSO teams, and all of the players must be registered with AYSO. Second, the program must operate pursuant to the EXTRA Program Guidelines.
Third (and most important), the program must be approved by the NBOD. This can be accomplished by following a simple application process. It must be approved because EXTRA is a pilot program.
If you meet these three requirements, congratulations! Your EXTRA Program is official.
If not, but the program could meet the requirements, you should take steps to have it approved as soon as possible. And if it cannot meet the requirements, because, for example, you play against non-AYSO teams, that’s still OK. Discuss with your Area Director or Section Director the best way to make sure that these teams are still in compliance with AYSO’s Rules.
However, if your program doesn’t meet the requirements, please don’t label it an EXTRA Program. Because it operates differently, calling it an EXTRA Program could be confusing to parents and players.
Any questions about starting an EXTRA Program should be directed to your Section Director. Any questions, comments, suggestions or concerns about the EXTRA Program should be directed to the Extended Play Task Force Chairman, Jordan Becker, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
