4 Ways to Retain Your Volunteers
AYSO has dozens of Regions that have earned a unique gold star: they have a steady increase of players and volunteers in their program each year.
We've collected tips and best practices from these growing Regions. This week's tips: 4 Ways to Retain Your Volunteers:
- Training is key. One RC stressed the importance of making sure your volunteers are fully trained and prepared for their positions. And, don't forget about yourself! "RC Training is a must, even if you think you have it under control," says an RC. Learn more about online and webinar training. Learn more about RC Training.
- Ask for help. Another RC says that thoughtful delegation is a great way to retain volunteers. That way, volunteers know that they are wanted and needed for a successful program.
- Be accessible. "It's so important that the RC is accessible," says one RC. Show your support by checking in with your volunteers, offering help and sharing advice. New coaches, referees, etc., volunteer because they want to help, but will need your guidance along the way.
- Have fun! "When you have fun, they have fun," says an RC. "It rubs off!" By genuinely enjoying yourself and your AYSO experience, others around you will do the same. Remember, attitudes are contagious!
